Public Transportation Systems Group at UConn
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website. I've created this site in hopes that it will be useful, current and informative.
I am a Castleman Term Professor in Engineering Innovation in the Transportation and Urban Engineering program within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Connecticut. I am also the Director of the Center for Transportation and Livable Systems (CTLS), UConn's University Transportation Center. My research areas include:
- Public Transportation Systems
- Public Transportation Economics
- Traffic Microsimulation
- Network Modeling
The Public Transportation Systems group is winding down after a busy semester. I was privileged to work with UConnITE to organize the 8th ITE Student Symposium at UConn in April - a resounding success. I am very excited to announce Kelly Bertolaccini's Eisenhower fellowship - it will support her for 3 full years of doctoral studies! Kelly will be investigating transit network design and impacts on economic development and social equity through this grant.
I was honored this spring to receive the Castleman Term Professorship in Engineering Innovation along with four colleagues in the School of Engineering. I was further honored when I received the award for Outstanding Graduate Advising - an award for which I was nominated by students. Thanks to those who nominated me.
I recently spent a morning at Mansfield Middle School leading 8th grade science students in a transportation network evolution experiment. It was great fun, and I look forward to going back and hearing about the results of their experiments. I was encouraged to hear the number of students who thought of transportation as more than just hopping in a car - without prompting, a lot of kids were thinking of buses, trains, airplanes, bikes and even walking.
You will find links to several ongoing projects and related information about the Public Transportation Systems Group at UConn. Again, thanks for visiting and please let me know of any comments/questions.
